Suspected Afghan soldier kills NATO troop
Feb 1, 2012, 7:20 GMT
Kabul - An individual dressed in an Afghan army uniform shot dead an international soldier in southern Afghanistan, the military alliance said Wednesday.
The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force said one of its soldiers was killed by a man wearing an Afghan National Army uniform in the region Tuesday, but did not provide any details.
It was not immediately clear whether the shooter was a soldier or an imposter in uniform.
The incident was the latest shooting of foreign troops who are fighting the decade-old Taliban insurgency.
NATO troops are also tasked with training Afghan security forces.
In June, a classified military study said the killing of foreign soldiers by Afghan troops was turning into a 'rapidly growing systemic threat' that could undermine the entire war effort.
Last month, in the north-eastern province of Kapisa province, an Afghan trooper killed four French soldiers and injured 16 others.
