Feb 5, 2012, 10:56 GMT
New Delhi - Indian cricket star Yuvraj Singh has been diagnosed with lung cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy in the United States, his doctor said Sunday.
A tumour on his lung was diagnosed as non-malignant late last year but further tests confirmed it was cancerous, physiotherapist Jatin Chaudhary told reporters in New Delhi.
The doctor said the disease was curable and the 30-year-old all-rounder would be 'fit to be back on the field' by May.
'It is a malignant tumour which has been detected in stage one itself,' Chaudhary said. 'It is 100 per cent curable.'
The cricketer is being treated at the Cancer Research Institute in Boston.
Singh whose Man-of-the-Series performance helped India lift the World Cup in April 2011 for the first time in 28 years.
But health issues forced him off the field and he has played only one test match in Britain following the victory.
