Feb 5, 2012, 11:33 GMT
Kabul - At least seven people were killed and more than a dozen injured in a suicide car bombing in southern Afghanistan on Sunday, officials said.
The Interior Ministry in a statement said a suicide car bomber set off the explosion on a square next to a police headquarters in the city of Kandahar. Three policemen and four civilians were killed, and nine people, including three police officers were wounded, the ministry said.
Earlier, a spokesman for the Kandahar governor said five policemen and two civilians, including a child, were killed.
'Seven people including five policemen were killed and 19 others including 13 civilians were wounded in the explosion,' Zulmai Ayobi said.
The ministry blamed Taliban militants for the bombing.
A United Nations report released Saturday described 2011 as the deadliest in five years for Afghan civilians, with more than 3,000 killed in the ongoing conflict.
