Suspected US drone strike kills four in Pakistan
Feb 9, 2012, 7:49 GMT
Islamabad - At least four people were killed Thursday in a suspected US drone attack in Pakistan's restive tribal region along the Afghan border, a security official said.
The attack targeted a house in Zafar Toban village near Miranshah in North Waziristan, one of seven tribal districts where militants linked to al-Qaeda are active.
A security official said on the condition of anonymity that the drones fired two missiles that destroyed the hideout and also killed four militants.
The death toll could not be verified through independent sources because the area is closed to media and aid groups.
It was the second strike in two days after the United States resumed attacks last month. The campaign was halted temporarily in November because of a NATO attack on a Pakistani border post that undermined Pakistani-US relations.
On Wednesday, nine suspected Taliban militants were killed and several more injured when a US drone attacked one of their hideouts in North Waziristan.
