Feb 11, 2012, 10:57 GMT
New Delhi - Amitabh Bachchan, one of India's most famous film stars, underwent abdominal surgery in Mumbai Saturday, news reports said.
Bachchan had suffered a near-fatal intestinal injury while shooting a fight scene for the movie Coolie in 1982. In a blog post before the surgery, Bachchan wrote that his current ailment was a legacy of that accident.
The surgery was successful and Bachchan, 69, was recovering well, his son Abhishekh Bachchan told reporters at the hospital.
Bachchan is one of India's most popular actors and has worked in more than 180 films over four decades. He was also the host of Kaun Banega Crorepati, the Indian version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.
He has been treated several times for abdominal complications, including a couple of surgeries. 'It's a war zone, my body, and one which has been through a great deal and still does,' he wrote in his blog.
Bachchan is set to make his Hollywood debut in 20012 in the Baz Luhrmann-directed The Great Gatsby, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio.
