Feb 25, 2012, 17:22 GMT
Islamabad - A US unmanned drone aircraft apparently crashed Saturday in Pakistan's north-western tribal region, along the Afghan border, two intelligence officials said.
The drone went down in the area of Machikhel in North Waziristan, which is a known as a hotbed of Taliban and al-Qaeda activity.
'We have received reports from the locals that a group of three drones were flying when one of them suddenly went down,' said an intelligence official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Another official said that some locals heard gunshots and a blast before the plane crashed.
'The possibility that some militants might have shot it down cannot be ruled out,' said a different official, who also sought anonymity.
