Iran seeks UN condemnation of Koran-burning in Afghanistan

Geneva - The UN Human Rights Council should condemn the burning of holy muslim texts by US troops in Afghanistan, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi said Monday at a meeting of the body in Geneva.
'Undoubtedly, this deplorable act of incitement is a gross violation of human rights, hurting sentiments of Muslims worldwide,' he said on the first day of the council's current session.
The body should take 'swift and decisive' action to 'condemn this horrible act,' the minister said.
More than 30 people have been killed and scores injured since the Koran-burning incident last week sparked terrorist attacks and widespread violent protests in Afghanistan.
Iran is not among the 47 member countries currently represented on the human rights council.
