London - Back home under a cloud of suspicion, Gerry and Kate McCann remained besieged by the world's media Monday amid a plethora of unanswered questions in the search for the truth over what happened to Madeleine.

The couple's hope for a respite from the intense media scrutiny of the past four months proved futile, as camera teams from Australia to the US followed them from the Algarve to camp outside their home in the village of Rothley, in Leicestershire.

But at least, after a 'sad homecoming' without Madeleine, they had a 'good night's sleep' and were comforted by the support of relatives and friends convinced of their innocence, a spokesman said.

Behind the scenes, however, the McCann's, who themselves triggered an unprecedented publicity campaign for Madeleine after her disappearance on May 3, remained as busy as ever, hiring top lawyers to fight their case.

While in Britain, the handsome doctor couple still enjoys the sympathy and support of a majority of the population, the Portuguese media have overwhelmingly turned against them, implying that the McCann's had 'fled' the country after being declared suspects in the case.

The dramatic twist in the investigations last week, which led Portuguese police to suspect the parents of 'accidentally killing Madeleine' and then covering up the crime, has, meanwhile, supplied the Madeleine story with the ingredients of a thriller.

Mixed emotions have been unleashed by the possibility that, on the one hand, an educated, middle-class couple could be responsible for such a horrific crime, and led the world by the nose for months, and, on the other, that the - secret - evidence presented by the police in Portugal is not watertight.

'If Kate McCann is charged and convicted, will we ever be able to trust human nature again?' asked the Daily Telegraph, summing up the bewildering impact the case has had on public opinion.

'We are filled with a mixture of admiration and disbelief at the way Kate McCann always appeared so immaculate in public, when most mums would have broken down long ago. We so want to admire her. I hope at the end of this we still do,' ended the commentary, lost for an answer.

In Portugal, by contrast, where the authorities have been angered by barely-concealed British accusations of alleged police incompetence, and by the media circus attracted by the British tourists, the line that the McCanns were probably responsible has consistently been drip-fed to the media.

In addition to all the underlying tensions, it is somewhat ironic that it is British forensic tests on samples provided by Portuguese police which have led to a hardening of the investigations.

The samples of DNA now at the centre of the investigation were taken, according to reports, from the McCanns' holiday apartment and from a car they hired 25 days after Madeleine's disappearance.

Experts in DNA science in Britain have warned that any evidence provided by DNA samples needed to be treated with caution, as 'secondary transfer' could have occurred and DNA was left in the locations concerned from another source.

'DNA is so sensitive that, if you and I met in the street and shook hands and then I went and committed some crime, then I could possibly leave your DNA at the scene,' said Allan Scott, a university lecturer and forensics expert.

Sedation Was Their NannySep 13th, 2007 - 10:57:15

How many people would think about sedating their children - in order to be freed up to go out for a romantic dinner in a foreign country?

When there was a perfectly good baby-sitting service in the hotel. And the Portuguese love children. They probably could have just as easy taken the children to dinner, and then had a quiet romantic drink on the balcony when they were asleep.

But as a doctor, Mrs McCann used sedation instead of a nanny to control her children. This was an abuse of authority given to her as a doctor, and an overdose of which could possibly have lead to the accidental death of little Madeline.

There is something not right about this story as the McCann’s present it.

Overdose doesn't cause bleeding, and the police claim there was blood. Albeit questionable blood. Both parents used bad judgement by leaving the children alone, but I don't feel they killed her. Wouldn't they have been hysterical while they were trying to hide the body after dinner? How can both parents be so cold and calculating when they find their child dead? It just wouldn't happen that way.

Only one party has been proven guilty in this case, beyond every reasonable doubt, that is the tabloid press from the usual Maxwell and Murdoch tycoons .Filling newspapers with unverified information ,speculation, making up editorials about the private lieves of people because it makes the papers sell better .If lives are mauled in the process ,eventually they will cynically make a yet another nice article about it too ,gaining againg in the process .Profit is their one and only issue .

No blood is present with a sedative injection.
Maddie was dead when she was taken from the flat that very same evening.

These parents had no experience of looking after their kids - they had a Nannie back in their luxurious mansion in the UK. They never took advantage of the hotel baby sitter facility, whilst they enjoyed their miserable selves with friends over a bite to eat.

Maddie had a bad night that evening, she was playing up and threatened to interrupt Mummy and Daddies precious evening. Mummy bashed her head in, then either dear Daddie or both of them panicked and drove out into the wilderness and dumped little Maddie under rocks. Forget the 'friends' all this happened outside any contact with them.

They then invented that ridiculous tale that some ghostly being had whisked her away into obscurity. What a load of crap - but millionaires and kerbside bums alike actually fell for it. The media certainly did. making Maddie a SAINT, whilst 1000`s of other children had been abducted throughout the world at the same time. What the hell has Maddie got that they have not ?

The bungling idiotic Portuguese police know these two killers have done it, but have not got adequate evidence to charge them yet. Half the rest of the worlds gullible brain dead morons, support this pair of murdering
freaks just because they are doctors or Gods disciples on Earth and look as if they have just come down from heaven, with their sickening performance and downright blatant lies.

We will I hope eventually see them locked up in some grotty jail for a very long time.
