Extra: Queen Elizabeth II in defiant message to terrorists
Jul 8, 2005, 16:32 GMT
London - Queen Elizabeth II, visiting bomb victims in a London hospital Friday, vowed that the attacks would only serve to make the nation stronger.
Referring to London's previous suffering from Nazi Germany's bomb raids on the city, and the terrorism of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) in the 1970s and 1980s, she said:
"Sadly we in Britain have been all too familiar with acts of terror and members of my generation, especially at this end of London, know that we have been here before.
But those who perpetrate these brutal acts against innocent people should know that they will not change our way of life.
Atrocities such as these simply reinforce our sense of community, our humanity, and our trust in the rule of law. That is the clear message from us all."
