(M&C) - The UK is beginning to feel the effects of human-induced global warming with a marked rise in land and sea temperatures in recent years said a government report released today.
The UK Climate Impact Programme 08 has found land temperatures in central England have risen by about 1C since the 1970s and sea temperatures up by 0.7C in the past three decades.
The first of five reports from the programme claims humans have had a significant impact on the climate change through the pumping of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Scientists have predicted the global average temperatures will rise by between 1.8 and 4.0 degrees Celsius this century due to carbon emissions.
"The report details the trends in Britain and sets the scene for those to follow," an environment department spokesman said.
Britain is currently in the process of bringing legislation to Parliament which would make emission cuts of 60 percent mandatory by 2050. However Environment Secretary Hilary Benn will also set up a committee to recommend whether this should be changed to 80 percent.

Brit, what is your point in all that ranting, the article was about climate. That has nothing to do with popularity polls I guess, are you telling anybody the laws of thermodynamics function like popularity polls? Then please go back to college and get a decent basic education, you seem to lack consideration and understanding of even the most basic rules of science.

What a pathetic statement. Could anybody predict what is happening NOW just a few months ago? Cerainly members of this present government could not. Their popularity has declined 50% in 6 months, did they predict that ?
To set targets 47 years in the future is folly, could the government in 1907 predict what was going to happen by 1950? [Airoplanes, cars, 2 world wars?]
The trouble with the UK government is that is about as intelligent as they get.
