UK soldier dies in Afghanistan after land mine blast

(M&C) - A UK soldier has been killed and five injured after a land mine explosion hit their vehicle in southern Afghanistan.
The soldier was attached to the 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment the BBC reported a Ministry of Defence (MoD) statement as saying.
The soldiers' vehicle was travelling about 3km (1.8 miles) northeast of Musa Qala in the troubled Helmand province when it was hit by the land mine the statement went on. All casualties were airlifted by helicopter to the International Security Assistance Force medical facility at Camp Bastion and Kandahar airfield.
Attacks on coalition forces in southern Afghanistan are frequent as troops battle insurgents in the region.
The dead soldier's name has yet to be released upon request of the family.
