(M&C) - The House of Commons is due to vote on a limited pay rise package for MPs with reports indicating the House will accept Prime Minister Gordon Brown's reduced offer of 1.9 percent.
The rise is less than the full 2.5 percent recommended by the independent Senior Salaries Review, however both the government and opposition frontbenches have accepted the reduced amount in order that parliament can lead cost-cutting in public expenditure by example.
However the government has announced this will probably be the last time MPs get to vote on their own pay rises with Labour promising a review of MPs pay and benefits.
The vote comes as police in England,Wales and Northern Ireland have protested over a reduction in promised pay increases with pay backdated to December instead of the earlier agreed September.
