Tories lead down in recent poll
By Rich Bowden, M&C Staff Writer Jan 29, 2008, 8:30 GMT
(M&C) - The opposition conservatives lead over the government has narrowed according to the latest opinion poll.
The ComRes survey, commissioned for the Independent, shows the Tories' lead to be eight percentage points -- down from eleven last month. The survey shows Labour support steady at 30 percent with Conservative support down to 38 percent.
The Liberal Democrats', under new leader Nick Clegg, have increased their support to 17 percent.
The poll shows the Conservatives have been unable to cash in on embarrassment caused the government by funding scandals and data loss from government departments.
The survey was conducted by telephone of 1,003 British adults from January 25 to 27.
