Fresh BA cancellations at London's Heathrow airport
Apr 7, 2008, 14:30 GMT
London - Trouble-hit British Airways (BA) Monday cancelled 42 European and short-haul flights from its new T5 terminal at London's Heathrow airport, blaming the knock-on effect of light snowfalls over the weekend.
BA insisted that the fresh cancellations were not connected with problems at T5's computer-controlled baggage-handling system which has caused chaos for travellers ever since the terminal opened on March 27.
BA said it was still tracking some 5,000 bags lost in the chaos but rejected claims that 90 per cent of missing bags would never be reunited with their owners.
During the chaos, it was reported that up to 20,000 bags had gone missing, but BA said Monday that it was 'extremely rare' for a piece of luggage to be lost for good.
Nearly 130 flights were scrapped on Sunday.
