Singer Amy Winehouse "being treated for emphysema"
Jun 22, 2008, 13:28 GMT
London - Troubled British singer Amy Winehouse has been diagnosed with emphysema and is being treated at a London hospital, a British newspaper report said Sunday.
The Grammy award-winning singer's serious lung condition has been attributed to the abuse of crack cocaine and cigarettes, her father Mitch Winehouse told the Sunday Mirror newspaper.
Doctors warned his daughter that she could end up in a wheelchair within a month if she fails to stop using the drugs, he said. The 24- year-old then told him, 'Don't worry about me, dad. I know I've got to stop taking drugs now.'
Winehouse was rushed to hospital after suffering a fit at her home in North London this week, according to the report. She also underwent tests for a lump in her chest, provisionally found to be non-cancerous, according to her father.
The singer's life has been in constant turmoil, with reports of her battle with drugs, a history of bulimia, and her husband, Blake Fielder Civil, 26, awaiting trial for assault in prison.
'Blake has apologized to me for getting Amy into drugs and says he's going to try and put it right,' Mitch Winehouse was quoted as saying.

Stars that run in her circle think they're so cool with this image they're putting out, it won't and can't happen to them is how they must feel with their untouchable lifestyles and the fashion world is partly to blame. My father has emphysema and he's got worse over 20 years, now he can't even walk to the bathroom without having to sit down for an hour to recover.
I wonder how many of her so called friends will be around to care for her in five years when she can't do much without severe breathing problems, she has given up her chance to walk very far or see lifes beauty when she's middle aged using her body to get her there i.e. walk up hills, outdoor sports or even dance in the near future, her singing career is already over if she wants to live.
very sad!
