Scottish ram is world's most expensive sheep
Aug 28, 2009, 12:40 GMT
London - A Scottish ram has become the most expensive sheep in the world after being sold for a record 231,000 pounds (374,000 dollars) at an agricultural auction, it was reported Friday.
Deveronvale Perfection was bought by a sheep farmer from Lanark, near Glasgow, who intends to use it for breeding, hoping to recoup the purchase price several times over.
The high price has been put down to the sheep's strong physical attributes. Seller Graham Morrison said the yield was beyond his 'wildest dreams'.
Britain's previous most expensive sheep, Tophill Joe, was bought for 128,000 pounds six years ago. He died recently after fathering lambs worth more than 1 million pounds.
