London - One of the enfant terribles of the British art scene, controversial painter Tracey Emin, has threatened to emigrate to France to escape a planned new tax on the rich, it was reported Sunday.
Emin, most famous for a tent listing all her previous lovers, and an unmade bed littered with sanitary towels and vodka bottles, told the Sunday Times she was not prepared to pay a 50 per cent tax rate due to come in next year.
The 46-year-old said she was very seriously considering leaving Britain', adding: Im simply not willing to pay tax at 50 per cent.'
The new tax comes in next April, and kicks in at earnings over 150,000 pounds (240,000 dollars) a year.
Emin has a holiday home in France, and suggested she may move there, saying that artists were better treated by the French state.
