Protestors clash with police at BBC ahead of TV show (Extra)
Oct 22, 2009, 16:00 GMT
London - Police clashed with anti-fascist protestors outside the headquarters of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in London Thursday ahead of the planned appearance of a far-right party leader on its flagship TV discussion programme.
Scuffles broke out as about 25 demonstrators crashed through police barriers and entered the reception of the BBC building in west London. They were escorted out by police and there were several arrests, police said.
Some were seen being dragged along the floor by police and BBC security staff.
Several hundred demonstrators gathered outside the building, vowing to stop Nick Griffin, the leader of the far-right British National Party (BNP), from reaching the studios later.
Griffin, 50, was due to appear on Question Time, a discussion programme in which questions are put to a panel by an invited audience.
Justice Secretary Jack Straw is among panel members. The programme, due to be pre-recorded later Thursday, is scheduled to be screened at 2135 GMT on BBC1.
