It's all in the bag, British poll reveals
Feb 26, 2010, 15:42 GMT
London - A woman's handbag has on average the same weight as a 15-month-old baby but men are more likely to carry their pet dogs around in a bag, a survey published Friday found.
Researchers who questioned 5,000 people online have calculated that the average bag weighs 10.5 kilograms, Bristol-based polling institute OnePoll told German Press Agency dpa Friday.
In addition to keys and mobile phones, pens, tissues, headache pills, chewing gum, MP3 players, lip balm, mirrors and deodorant were listed as essential items.
Some respondents said they routinely carried a toothbrush, condoms, a bottle opener and a sewing kit.
One in 20 men - or six per cent- carry spare underwear, twice the number of women who pack an extra pair of knickers in their handbag.
Five per cent of men said they had a dog carrier, compared with just one per cent of women.
