Far-right Dutch politician brings anti-Islam message to Britain
Mar 5, 2010, 14:56 GMT
London - Dutch far-right politician Geert Wilders brought his anti-Islam message to Britain Friday, maintaining that the religion was incompatible with democracy and calling for an end to immigration in Europe.
Wilders, whose right-wing Freedom Party (PVV) made considerable gains in recent local elections in the Netherlands, was in London to show his controversial anti-Islam film Fitna at the House of Lords.
He was invited to do so by two members of the upper house of the British parliament sympathetic to his cause.
A year ago, former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith barred Wilders from entering Britain on the grounds that he would pose a 'genuine, present and significantly serious threat' to society.
At a press conference after the showing, Wilders said 'Islamism' undermined basic freedoms and argued that only Muslims who adapted to the rules and laws of western societies should be allowed to stay.
