Britain says Yemeni government promised vigorous probe (Extra)
Oct 6, 2010, 17:37 GMT
London - The government of Yemen has promised a 'vigorous investigation' into the rocket attack on an armoured vehicle in Sana'a Wednesday in which a British diplomat was slightly injured, the Foreign Office said.
A spokeswoman the assurances had been given to Foreign Secretary William Hague, who condemned the 'shameful attack' on British diplomats.
Sources confirmed that Fionna Gibb, the British deputy ambassador to Yemen, was among diplomats travelling in the embassy car when it was attacked. But she escaped unhurt.
'The vehicle was on its way to the British Embassy, with five embassy staff on board. One member of staff suffered minor injuries and is undergoing treatment, all others were unhurt,' said the spokeswoman.
