Feb 15, 2011, 23:52 GMT
London - Reunited British pop group Take That were crowned best British group on Tuesday at the Brit Awards in a competition dominated by the emergence of home-grown urban music - British style.
Take That, following their reunion with Robbie Williams last year, gave a show-stopping performance of their latest single, Kidz, accompanied by an advance guard of dancers dressed as riot police.
But Britain's biggest pop music bash was dominated by the emergence of a distinctly British brand of urban music, with rapper Tinie Tempah - real name Patrick Okogwu - scooping two awards for best British breakthrough artist and best single for his debut Pass Out.
'I want to big up God and my family for sticking by me when times are hard,' the 22-year-old rapper told crowds at the 02 concert venue in Greenwich, south London.
Canadian group Arcade Fire were named best international group and won the best international album prize for The Suburbs, while 16- year-old Canadian Justin Bieber was named best newcomer of the year for Baby.
US popstar Rihanna won the award for best female international solo artist, and US rapper Cee Lo Green was named best male international solo artist.
'That's something very big,' Rihanna said. 'It doesn't get better than the Brits.'
