Rags-to-riches story of Harry Potter author JK Rowling to be filmed
Feb 17, 2011, 13:16 GMT
London - The magical rise of Harry Potter author JK Rowling from social security recipient to multi-millionaire is to be portrayed in an unauthorized TV film about her life, British media reported Thursday.
Filming for Strange Magic is due to start early next week in the Canadian city of Victoria, with Australian actress Poppy Montgomery in the lead role.
Rowling, 45, who is notoriously protective of her private life, has not authorized the film, reported the Press Association.
She started on her world-renowned Potter series as a jobless single mother in Edinburgh, Scotland, in the 1990s, using a cafe to write because she could not afford to heat her home.
Rowling, now one of the world's richest women, is said to have an estimated fortune of 520 million pounds (840 million dollars).
The books have sold more than 400 million copies and been translated into 67 languages. Eight films have been made of the seven-volume series.
