Britain names new defence secretary

London - Britain Friday named Philip Hammond as the new defence secretary following the resignation of Liam Fox, the government said.
Hammond, 55, switches from being transport secretary in the government of Prime Minister David Cameron.
He will be succeeded at the Transport Department by Justine Greening, who will be the second woman in the cabinet besides Theresa May, the Home Secretary.
