Amy Winehouse died from alcohol poisoning, British inquest finds
Oct 26, 2011, 13:03 GMT
London - British soul singer Amy Winehouse had consumed large amounts of alcohol before she died at the age of 27 in July, an inquest into her death found Wednesday.
Recording a verdict of death by misadventure, coroner Suzanne Greenway said the star was more than five times over the legal drink-drive limit when she died.
The inquest heard that the star hit the bottle after being dry for three weeks and was poisoned by alcohol.
'She had consumed sufficient alcohol at 416 mg per decilitre (of blood) and the unintended consequence of such potentially fatal levels was her sudden and unexpected death,' ruled Greenway.
Earlier, the inquest heard that two large vodka bottles and a small bottle of the same drink were found in her flat when her body was discovered on July 23.
The hearing was told that Winehouse had not had a drink during the month of July before she hit the bottle on the night before she was found.
Earlier toxicology results showed the troubled star had 'no illegal substances' in her blood. An autopsy conducted soon after her death also failed to establish what killed her.
