British, Danish royals highlight aid need in East Africa
Nov 2, 2011, 17:02 GMT
Copenhagen - British royals Prince William and his wife Catherine on Wednesday helped draw attention to the need for more humanitarian assistance for eastern Africa during a visit to a UNICEF emergency supply centre in Denmark.
The royal couple were accompanied by Danish Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary during their visit to the UNICEF centre in Copenhagen that packs and distributes supplies to children worldwide.
The visit sought to highlight the humanitarian crisis and food shortages in eastern Africa affecting 13 million people, including more than 320,000 malnourished children.
Recent rains in the region threaten to worsen their plight after a protracted drought.
The royals helped pack relief supplies, after a briefing in the large warehouse.
A plane was later Wednesday due to fly from Copenhagen to Nairobi with the supplies, which include vaccines and emergency medical kits.
