British Red Arrows fighter pilot dies in ejector seat accident
Nov 8, 2011, 19:14 GMT
London - A British Royal Air Force (RAF) pilot died on Tuesday after his ejector seat was activated while the plane was on the ground.
The pilot, of the Red Arrows aerobatics team, was catapulted through the cockpit of his Hawk Jet, an RAF spokesman said.
In August, a Red Arrows pilot died after his plane crashed at an air show in southern England. The entire fleet was grounded and inspected over several weeks, but later resumed flights.
The Red Arrows are undergoing winter training at an RAF base at Scampton, in the eastern county of Lincolnshire. Tuesday's death was the eighth since the prestigious aerobatics display team was founded in 1965.
