Nadal set to fight on after heavy loss to Federer
Nov 23, 2011, 0:13 GMT
London - Rafael Nadal Tuesday vowed to fight on for a place in the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour Finals after suffering his heaviest-ever loss to Roger Federer, 6-3, 6-0.
The round robin rout gave Federer a place in the Saturday semi-finals at the season-ending event with one group B match still to go. The Swiss improved to 9-17 in their series in the only match they have played without one of the two standing number one in the world.
Number four Federer had all the answers in the one-way result while second-ranked Nadal was asking a few questions.
But the beaten Spanish warrior said: 'Seriously I'm not disappointed about how it ended. I had (upset stomach) problem the first day.'
'I accept that he played at a fantastic level, a very, very top level. It was something very special only one player like Roger can manage. I accept that and keep fighting.'
Nadal will get his last chance to reach the weekend when he plays Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in a final group contest.
'This is not the moment to say good bye or to go down,' said ten-time Grand Slam winner Nadal. I'm still in the tournament, I still having the chance to be in the semi-finals by winning the next match.'
The comprehensive victory by Federer ended three 2011 losses to Nadal, the last one in heir Roland Garros final in June.
'I didn't play really bad, but he didn't have one mistake during all the match or two mistakes during all the match. I tried my best, but it seems that wasn't enough tonight,' said Nadal.
