Former "Britartist" Tracey Emin to become art professor
Dec 14, 2011, 14:22 GMT
London - Tracey Emin, the British contemporary artist who made her name by exhibiting her own unmade bed, has been appointed to become a professor of drawing at London's renowned Royal Academy.
Emin, 48, whose fame has rocketed in recent years, said she was 'thrilled' at the prospect of teaching at the Royal Academy's schools.
Her installation, My Bed, complete with used condoms and stained underwear, was nominated for the prestigious Turner Prize for contemporary art in 1999.
Emin, who is of English and Turkish Cypriot origin, belonged to the group known as Young British Artists whose 'Britart' shocked the arts establishment in the 1990s.
She has since become a Royal Academician - a member of the Royal Academy - and, this year, saw the Hayward Gallery in London devote a solo exhibition to her work.
