Britain's Prince Philip released from hospital
Dec 27, 2011, 10:45 GMT
London - Prince Philip, the husband of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, was released from hospital Tuesday after undergoing an emergency heart procedure over the weekend.
'On departure, Prince Philip thanked the staff at Papworth (hospital) for the excellent care he has received during his stay,' read a royal statement. 'He is very much looking forward to rejoining his family.'
Philip, 90, also the Duke of Edinburgh, was admitted to the hospital on Friday after complaining of chest pains, according to a royal statement. He had stents inserted to clear a blockage.
The surgery meant the prince missed many of the family's traditional Christmas events, including an exchange of gifts and the annual Boxing Day shoot.
The heart operation is the most serious health scare yet suffered by the prince, who is known for being a robust and active 90-year-old. In October, he joined the queen for an intensive 11-day tour of Australia.
