London - The Artist added to its list of accolades Sunday, with the silent, black-and-white film taking home best film honours at the Bafta awards.
The homage to the glory days of Hollywood by French director Michel Hazanavicius is seen as a key contender ahead of the Oscars and earlier won the Golden Globe for best musical or drama.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards are seen as another key indicator of possible Oscar gold.
The Artist's star Jean Dujardin was lauded as best actor for his role as a silent actor who must deal with the advent of sound in films. The movie was also awarded best director honours.
Meryl Streep was named best actress for her portrayal of former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.
British actor John Hurt was lauded for outstanding British contribution to cinema, while Martin Scorsese received honorary membership in the British Academy.
