London - British soul singer Adele continued her winning streak by taking home two top prizes at the Brit Awards ceremony Tuesday in London.
Following her recent sweep of six Grammy Awards in the United States, the 23-year-old singer was named best British female soloist and won in the best British album category at the Brit Awards, the most important British pop music competition.
'Nothing makes me prouder than coming home with six Grammys and then coming to the Brits and winning album of the year,' she told the crowd. 'I'm so proud to be British and to be flying our flag.'
Newcomer Ed Sheeran won two awards - best British male and British breakthrough - while Coldplay were crowned best British group for a record third time.
US pop star Bruno Mars was named best international male, Rihanna picked up best international female, and New York-based pop star Lana Del Rey won the international breakthrough trophy.
'This award means much more to me than you know, and I just want to say that without the support of everyone in this room and everyone in the UK I'd really be lost,' she told the crowd at London's O2 Arena.
