Illegal immigrants face growing backlash across US
By Tony Czuczka Jun 30, 2007, 11:56 GMT
Nashua, New Hampshire - Bustling around his tiny Mexican restaurant, Jesus Hernandez briefly pauses his 10-hour workday to complain about Americans who say illegal immigrants steal US jobs.
'I think Americans don't want to do those jobs,' says the 29-year- old, who opened his business this year. 'Mexicans work harder here than in Mexico. You can't take a siesta when you're in America.'
Few would dispute that. Yet Latin American immigrants face an increasingly chilly mood across the United States - even in states like New Hampshire, 3,000 kilometres north of the Mexican border.
Some Republican presidential candidates have turned the nation's 11-12 million illegal immigrants into their signature campaign issue for 2008, supported by conservative talk show and television hosts.
A private group best known for patrolling the Mexican border, the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, is expanding northward. It set up a state chapter in New Hampshire last year to recruit self-appointed guards for the rural border with Canada.
Equally frustrated by what they see as the federal government's inaction, a number of state and local authorities have passed laws and rules designed to get rid of illegal immigrants.
How to deal with illegal aliens has bedevilled US politicians at least since the 1980s. After President George W Bush this week failed to win over Republican lawmakers for a plan to legalise all migrants, some activists worry about the emotions whipped up by the debate.
'It's already pretty bad,' said Michele Waslin, spokeswoman for the Hispanic rights group National Council of La Raza. 'We've seen this growing anti-immigrant sentiment for quite a while.'
'People are being told 'Go back to your country,' and they've been in this country their entire lives,' she said in an interview.
Immigration hard-liners charged that Bush's plan gave amnesty to illegal immigrants and too little attention to border security, such as a planned 1,100-kilometre fence along the Mexican border.
But emotions run deeper, cutting to the core of US identity - the ideal of the melting pot, where successive waves of immigrants were welcomed and assimilated. The backdrop: Hispanics have increased to 14.5 per cent of the US population from about 6 per cent in 1980.
Tom Tancredo, a US lawmaker from the western state of Colorado who is running for president, says 'enough is enough' and suggests halting even most legal immigration to the US.
He points to the huge proliferation of customer telephone numbers in the US that let callers choose between English and Spanish.
'The process of assimilation is not going on,' the grandson of Italian immigrants claimed during a recent presidential debate in New Hampshire.
'It will take this long: Until we no longer have to press one for English and two for any other language,' he said.
Yet the system Bush says is 'broken' has served both sides: migrants who come to the US seeking a better life and overstay their visas, and employers who gamble they won't get caught using illegal labour in sectors such as construction, hotels and meat-packing.
Polls suggest that the US is torn on the issue. A June survey said only 27 per cent of Americans believe that illegal workers 'take jobs away from Americans who need them,' but another poll found them evenly split on whether immigration helps or hurts the US.
In any case, US public sensitivity is so high that several Cabinet nominees in past years withdrew after it emerged that they had employed undocumented household help.
Former New York police chief Bernard Kerik ended a bid to become Bush's homeland security chief in 2004 when questions arose about the immigration status of a housekeeper and nanny who worked for Kerik.
Hispanics make up just 2 per cent of New Hampshire's population. Still, immigration is certain to remain on the radar in the small state, where the two big US parties hold the first preference votes on their presidential candidates in early 2008.
In the reviving former textile mill town of Nashua, Hernandez's unpretentious place is steps away from Brazilian and Colombian eateries.
All of his US documents are in order, he says, and he has paid his dues working in kitchens at Chinese and American restaurants in town. He left behind life in Colima state on Mexico's Pacific coast.
'I wanted to do better,' he says.

If we got rid of this part of US community, then who will do the menial jobs?
The immigrants are brought with certain intent.
Well we can't beat the Iraquis - now who else can we shoot at ?
We need illegal immigration?
What are you talking about? First off I do agree that we need a temp. work program, or short term visas, for jobs that Americans do not want to do, but not illegals aliens. And what do you mean by menial jobs? What do you think a menial job is, or should I say, below a livable wage job. Lets take a hotel house keeper for instance, most are making min. wage, but the funny thing is most hotels are charging us near $50.00 bucks a night, or more now a days. It takes a good house keeper between 30 to 45 minutes to clean an average room. so on a average it takes 3 hours to do 4 rooms, or less. Now say the house keeper makes $7.00 an hour, that means the house keeper just made $21.00 for 4 rooms cleaned, and the hotel just made $200.00 for the 4 rooms. Now I know the hotel has other expenses to deal with, so lets just go with $50.00 to $100.00 per 4 rooms. The hotel still made a $100.00 profit for 4 rooms, 'thats a lot of money for just 4 rooms, and they can't afford a livable wage?' Look at construction of a new house, you will find the same thing going on there too. By the way before the illegals came a long, some of these jobs paid good money, and Americans were doing them, but greed took over the employers, and Americans started losing their jobs.
You really need to study more on this whole illegal immigration issue, and when you do get the information, you will find what I found out. Illegal immigration is more of burden on the tax payers, than a plus. The only people that really seem to benefit are the rich. I know that Mexico has a lot of problems, and for some of these illegals it is a question of life and death, but I am not going to slit the throat of my fellow Americans, so the rich can get richer...
It is intersting to hear about the jobs Americans don't want. Many Americans did want these jobs but were pushed out of them by employers who only look at the bottom line. These employers don't feel they should be held accountable for their social responsibilities in their own countries. The meat packing plants in Iowa and construction industry in the west and southwest reflect the greed and lack of integrity of employers. ( The rub being that once one nefarious employer starts doing this the other business have a hard time competing.) It is no longer acceptable to 'make a living'. Everybody wants to be rich. It appears Americans confuse the right to pursue happiness with being entitled to get everything they want cheap. Cheap means somebody some where is getting below average wages. On top of it we are hearing constant 'threats' from big business employers about how they will have to raise their prices. Prices go up any way even with the illegal alien work force. Maybe it's time the cost of living goes up. Maybe citizens in the U.S need a wake up call regarding how much things really cost instead living high on the backs of illegal immigrants and the almost slave labor that creates Chinese imports. Maybe it's time we see a return to small entreprenurial businesses that would actually stand a chance against 'big busisness' once the playing field was even. These are just some ideas to consider...
You are horrendously wrong and an inbred.
It is the ILLEGALS living on the backs of the US citizens and this has been happening for nearly 3 decades.
What cost of living have you not noticed rise today in the USA you numbnut?
Have you noticed the cost of prescriptions, oil, milk, electronics, health insurance??
Some people choose between eating food and buying prescriptions so dont tell us anything about prices as you obviously know zero.
Did you know your poor Mexicans have caused the bankruptcy of 84 hosptals in southern California according to Gov Schwarrzengger?
Are these the people you call poor and exploited?
I think that term is for the US citizenry you pathetic liar.
If Mexicans have it soooo bad here in America than please stay the @#$&$ back in Mexico and stop destroying my nations social services, neighborhoods, schools, and hospitals.
Mexicans need to stay home in Mexico and change Mexico and not try to change my America!!!
You leftists are too easy and much too stupid.
Propaganda does not equal truth or reality.
Backlash should be against employers as well as renters/communities that cater to illegals not the immigrants themselves.
Our country is in a constant state where employers want cheap labor while employees and their offspring want a better life. Companies complain that they can't find enough Americans to do certain types of jobs. So, they hire illegals to fill the void. This has created a large underclass forced to accept lower wages, no/lower benefits, mistreatment, etc. If these folks are ever given legal status, they'll finally be empowered to demand better wages/benefits or move to more desirable jobs. During the housing boom years, many farmers saw crops rot in the fields when a good percentage of illegals flocked to higher-paying construction jobs.
To afford living in the US while at the same time sending money home, illegals often double up, triple up, or more in housing. Here I've seen five and six non-related Mexican immigrant men stuffed into small two-bedroom apartments. Sometimes two or three large families pile into a single family home. So, we have mini-slums dispersed throughout our communities. This is why renters/communities should feel a backlash as well.
The savings from using all this cheap labor isn't passed onto consumers here in the form of lower prices. It goes into the pockets of top management in these greedy companies. Welcome to America, a country which enslaves illegal immigrants to work less desirable jobs and outsources its desirable ones overseas.
Dear 'you dope with out a GED',
Are you assuming the author of this commentary is hispanic or not a citizen? I don't believe you truly read or understood my commentary. As a person who lives in a border town my family has been affected by the influx of illegal immigrants. I watched my spouse driven out of the construction industry due to competition from cheap illegal labor. Jobs in my area for customer service have a 'must speak Spanish' tag applied to them. These are U.S. jobs for U.S services. I am a U.S. citizen being kept out of jobs because I can't speak Spanish even though I am more then qualified for every other aspect of the positions. Obviously I hit an emotional button with you. However, the commentary that I wrote was actually in favor of cracking down on the borders. It was in favor of giving small businesses in the U.S. a chance to compete against the big businesses who have no problem hiring illegals or importing from China. I also think U.S. citizens need to be prepared for the possibility of an economic backlash. We are a nation of spoiled people who are used to having a great many things. Many of us take it for granted. I am far from a bleeding heart liberal or leftist. I was born in the United States. I also have a degree. Name callng and hysterical accusations will not bring about the results you desire. It only creates hatred and animosity where there was none.
All that being said I also know many of the people coming in to the United States illegally really are trying to find a better life then what they had in Mexico or South America. They are willing to live in crowded, substandard housing and willing to take substandard pay. There are plenty of employers willing to hire. Do I feel sorry for them? Not really. Obviously the substandard living arrangements and substandard pay is still better then what they had in their own country. Will I feel sorry for them if they are deported. Again not really. They took a risk coming here with out proper documentation. Risks and breaking the law have consequences. Rather then flinging accusations at some one who 'seems' to conflict with your ideas it may be better to ask more questions. Shame on you for your name calling and unfounded accuations.
Wow, did coke head Bush screw this one up...all the lobbyist money could not get this bill sighed into law, when the real Legal Americans spoke up......Now we get get to hear all the 'BULL' coming our way from the candidates still in office and running for the seat on the Nights of the Round Table. We get to hear about how they did not created this mess to begin with along with all the finger pointing...This is going to be fun......And of course we are going to hear from Clinton [her] about how she did not have a hand in it either.....She wants to bring temp works in to learn 'American Computer Jobs'...She took a lot of p.a.c. money from silicon valley lobbyist just for this reason....
Let us get the wall built. It is time.
The waste of money to build a wall is ridiculous! I say that we need to bring to task those employers who would hire an illegal. If they don't want to take the time to do some serious checking on people they hire, then that's their downfall. I've seen time and time again where the illegals are rounded up, and the employer just goes on their merry way without so much as a fine!! It would still be interesting to see what will happen if all the illegals are sent back - people might get a big surprise!
To; Jones,,you're so good, wall's will not stop anything. We need to go after employers big time, but with their lobbyist groups, lets face it they have more money then we do to buy off the politicians and change the laws. This has become a campaign issue now, and the statuesque in Washinton did not want this to happen. legal Americans can still vote..But as the other Clinton [ the her type, not the molester type ]has said the American vote is just a small nuisance now..
To 'You are such a dope without a GED':
Get a clue you freaking nut-job. Most illegals are hard-working people who want a better life for themselves and their families. They're not much different than your ancestors who migrated to the US.
Illegals are not the reason for the 'high cost of prescriptions, oil, milk, electronics, health insurance.' They didn't force 84 CA hospitals into bankruptcy. What nerve you have to tell Mexicans to stay home and change their country when your own ancestors didn't do the same.
To severely reduce the illegal immigration problem, we need to crack down on employers. That has been the magnet drawing most of them here.

To bodertowndweller:
I bet you're probably an offspring of immigrants like the majority of us. Most first-generation Americans suffer(ed) similar hardships as illegals do today. When you see someone take substandard pay and housing, rather than being so cold-hearted try imaging that person as being your parent, grandparent, or whoever else was the first to come here. You should feel compassion not indifference when seeing another human treated worse than yourself.
Companies should not be allowed to exploit people who were born in poorer countries. Foreigners should not be hired at cheaper wages to work inside the US where they displace American workers.
English is the glue that helps bridge the different cultures within our country. All immigrants should be forced to learn English. IMO we should stop providing special treatment to Hispanics w/ dedicated Spanish translators. Not only is this discriminatory towards those who come here knowing other languages, it also slows that group's integration into our society. It's very hard to can't get ahead here without knowing English well.
Finally, some people who have some compassion - refreshing to see!
illegal immigration is Wrong no matter what Country you
are from !! i am half Mexican i do believe we need to hold
off on immigration legal or unfair visa programs
don't say all Mexicans are hard workers some
illegal immigrants are overcrowding prisons
and hurting our healthcare programs !!
so i do believe we have to fix our immigration policy's
fix our borders pass laws that jail employers ext
1st I am accused of being a leftist. Now I am accused of lacking compassion. Neither is true. As a matter of fact my father is an immigrant to the United States. He arrived here legally when he was 15 years old with his family. He came from a country decimated by war. When he arrived he spoke neither English nor Spanish. He learned English by submersion (going to school with out ESL classes) and also served in the U.S. military. He is very proud to be a U.S. citizen and considered it a privilege. He has worked hard to make a living here and make a home for his family. My words may be interpreted as a bit harsh but they are the truth. It is wrong and/or misguided to enter any country illegally, set up house and then expect them to look the other way or welcome you with open arms. If one sneaks or lies to achieve a goal then one needs to consider the ramifications of that behavior. In the case of illegal immigration the result may be deportation. As I stated previously I understand why people come to the U.S. I do not want to see families torn apart or people lose their homes. However, if you come here illegally you have built your foundation on the sand and it is a precarious existence. If you are not born here it is not your right to be here. It is a privilege. There are a lot of people trying to do it the right way. Are they fools? Should they display the same arrogance as the illegal hispanic who told my father he'd better learn to speak Spanish if he wanted his business to succeed in this state? Yes, my father the immigrant who learned to speak English is now being instructed to learn yet another language. Perhaps he was a fool. Perhaps it would have been easier if he and his family had just walked in, squatted and proclaimed in his native tongue 'this is mine'.
No one should have a right to live in any country. Even those who were born in it. They SHOULD have to justify the presence to the rest of society, and if they can't they should start looking for another country that will accept a wastrel/scum like they must actually be.
Do that and everyone would be doing their best to make society great. No one would just be riding on anyone else's coat tail, lazily trying to change society to suit themselves rather than the greater society.
People don't like lawbreakers? What a suprise.
I want to immigrate illegally to Mexico, China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, Egypt, or whichever country I choose. What are my chances of bettering my life as compared to living here in the US? If I get caught, what will they do to me, or whoever hires me or shields me from the authorities?
Worst-case scenario, I would not always be justly deported back to the US.
Uphold your laws or you are nothing but hypocrites and can never be trusted to secure the nation's welfare.
Dear ''elcajondavidJun 30th, 2007 - 17:09:15'' you are right, the capitalist does not want to pay the fellow citizen, his due, but that is capitalism. The society is multi-Layered one and each upper layer wants to keep what it has, plus suck the blood of the lower layer, and lowest of the layer, are the illegal immigrants!
SO CAPITALISM DOES NOT WANT TO GET RID OF IT
Simple answer - Stop all money tensfers into mexico or tax the money that goes in there. The mexicans will stop crossing the boarder as the US economy supports Mexico
...and I, almost never, hear that Mexicans are stealing US jobs. Employment is at historic highs. The Bush economic juggernaut keeps producing jobs at an incredible rate.
Finding sober, legal workers with any skills cost an employer somewhere between 10 to 20 THOUSAND per person! I have one company, locally, who is hiring 1000 people!
Who are these people who think Mexicans are stealing jobs????
Dear I live here,
Please clarify. The jobs for which most illegal aliens are hired are not white collar. They are blue collar type jobs. The jobs that many people who don't have education beyond high school would probably take if they knew they were available. You seem to be implying that U.S. citizens who fall into the category of blue collar are drunks and addicts. If you prefer to hire immigrants more power to you. Just make sure they have the proper documents first. If they do have the proper documents it is doubtful they will be willing to take below minimum wage. Depending on the state where you live most people have a hard time living on the current minimum wage.
Having a 'hard time living on the minimum wage' is noting to do with immigrants. It is more likely to show that either the minimum wage is too low (but it doesn't matter what you set it at - some people will always complain) or people on the minimum wage are not very good at organising their expenditure - bet they're spending a lot on cigarettes, booze and unhealthy food
Mexicans aren't stealing jobs. They're simply stealing Social Security numbers in order to live here illegally. I don't care who you are, or where you're from. DO IT LEGALLY! I would get arrested if I stole somebody's identity, Mexicans should get arrested to. Simple as that.
I implied no such thing. All I said was that I don't know of anyone who has walked up and said his job was taken by Mexicans. My wife is an HR professional and she cannot fill jobs fast enough. There are always manufacturing, truck driving and other jobs not filled, due to the applicants history.
Your myth that Mexicans are taking just low skilled jobs is just that: We see them with all kinds of skills i.e. carpentry, welding, etc.
Given that, Hispanics are stepping up to these jobs as fast as they can. My point is that most indigenous Americans don't want these jobs.
SP4. Sad to say you are spreading myths. My spouse is a painter in the construction trade. He takes a lot of pride in his work. He has over 20 years experience. However, he is leaving the trade, not because he doesn't want or like the job, but because he can no longer compete against people who come here illegally and get paid under the table. The utilization of illegal immigrants has hit just about every part of the construction trade hard. Most of his friends and co-workers have either moved north or to the midwest to seek work or they left the trades all together because they could no longer compete. Forced out because they could no longer compete and still support their families. There are many people who have no desire to work in an office and prefer to make a living working with their hands. By the way, most 'trades' such as welding and carpentry are or were considered 'blue collar'. Also I agree that this has little to do with any body 'stealing' jobs. It is much more to do with people hiring illegal immigrants because they come cheap.
Illegal is illegal is illegal. If they use a fake number, or steal my brother's number, it's illegal. I don't care about their jobs, and no, americans DO want those jobs that they supposedly 'take'. Over half our shop is white, and minimum wage. I have teenagers wanting to work in 95 degree humid weather hauling scrap metal for that minimum wage--white teenagers. It's not about jobs, it's about a crime being committed. If you steal an SS number in New Mexico, from an American man in Ohio, and that American man gets laid off-he's denied unemployment because some Mexican is using his number, causing the state to think that the American man is 'working'. This is happening all over the place. They're ruining people's lives, as well as credit scores, etc. They need to get their criminal backsides booted out of this country before they hurt more innocent people.
Yeah. Talk about the 'illegals' that 'steal' American jobs.
What about the American companies that outsource jobs to other countries like India, China and Korea?
Why is nobody mad at them?
Oh that's right, because like the Germans, you have to fixate all your blame on one race. You racist bastards...
The problem is not 'legality' at all. Oh no. If it were, an amnesty would take care of that quickly. Then everyone would be 'legal,' and the 'legal' problem would be solved. But that's not it, isn't it. It's why people have to lash out at even LEGAL Mexican-Americans, and to bash Spanish, and all these pointless measures to make 'English the language of the country.'
You racist, neo-Nazi scum.
It is YOU who are the racist against all nativeborn, LEGAL Americans you crossdressing freak.
You mention all those other countries but you conveniently forgot 1 fact.
Those nations are NOT FLOODING our borders and collapsing our schools, neighborhood, and BANKRUPTING all our social services you leftist boil.
Did you ever hear how Mexies talk of US citizens??
No.
You just love to stroke yourself while listening to democraps boohoo the ILLEGAL ALIENS destroying our nation.
Move to your beloved Mexico.
The difference with my parents is that they came here LEGALLY!!
Do you understand that term littleman?
They came here from Hungary in 1959, got jobs, NO WELFARE OF ANY KIND, learned English, and always supported America without littering and protesting in the streets waving Hungarian flags.
Guess what else happened when they came here?
My mom was fired from her first job CUZ HER ENGLISH WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!
See what happens today to any US employer who even tries that tactic.
The company would be sued for millions for alleged discrimination, told to apologize, and Jesse Jackson the shakedown artist would be marching in the streets.
Now all buses, billboards, trains in my city have as many Spanish as English signs.
What is up with that moron?????
Where was the same consideration for the Hungarians those days???
Hungarians learned, assimilated, and worked....ususally 2 jobs.
Mexicans and the others now RUN to the hospitals, demand intrepreters, receive subsidized housing, BANKRUPT HOSPITALS AS IN CALIFORNIA TODAY, and demand America ADJUST TO THEIR COMMANDS AT TAXPAYER EXPENSE!!!
Yeah, the situation is TOTALLY the same with my parents and the Mexicans of today.
Same as night and day.
You leftists just dont get it....and never will.
Extreme comments beget extreme reactions. We have laws that every citizen must adhere to or suffer the consequences. When non-citizens break the law, they must suffer the consequences accordingly, for, what good is the justice system if it does not apply to all.
Fact: the politicians and the justice system are broken, and justice is not equal for all citizens, therefore, how are we going to deal with the laws we live under?
In the above question lies our dilemma, the enforcement of the law as it applies to legal and illegal residents, or does it? As for me, I would rather build up my country rather than bury it. I would rather stem the flow of whatever illegal activities overwhelm my country and its rightful citizens, who live under the world's greatest constitution.
Each and every employer is required UNDER PRESENT LAW to sign an affidavit stating that he hires legal citizens. The business is also required UNDER PRESENT LAW to report earnings and pay taxes on those earnings. Hiring illegal alians UNDER PRESENT LAW is an illegal act by the employer. Not paying federal and state tax, both the employer and employee is illegal Under Present Laws. Entering the country without proper paperwork and identifivcation is Illegal UNDER Present Laws. If each and every law is simply( and it is that simple) obeyed, the illegals will leave as there are no statutes that UNDER Present LAW gives entitlements, welfare, subsidies, education, medical, or even anchor baby's citizenship etc., etc., etc., to non-citizens(illegals) of this nation. Stop the word games, numbers games, looking the other way games, and make our agencies and law enforcement departments obey and enforce the laws ...the illegals will leave. Do not allow your Congressmen ANY manuevering room on this. They have sworn their oaths of office to uphold the laws of this country. Write, email, phone and fax every Congressman to OBEY the Present Laws of the United States of America. NO AMNESTY, it never has worked before and it won't now.
I think there should be some kind of visa granted to illegal immigrants.
There here working just likeeveryonemaybeillegally working hard to earn ther money. I'msickof hearing people saying illegals are taking american jobs, if the americans were out working and filling these positions instead of sitting at home receiving goverment assistance or selling drugs there would be no jobs for the illegals to take. I have lived around them all my life the are good hardworking people who only want a better life for themselves and thier families. I think that is what any typical american woud want. No one understands how hard it is to come here and leave there families behind not knowing when will be the next time the see them. So i think that if ther was some type of visa granted for 2 to 3 years they would come here legally, work and retun to thier countries. but instead the have to go through deserts and rivers to get here leaving their families. If only we could experince that journey they take to get here maybe we could understand how they feel. Also we don't allow them to get liscence or Id's that only causes more crimes to occur. For example if the have a car accident they get out and run Why? because they are scarred if going to jail if they had id's or liscence they would be able report crimes themselves. the law only raises crime and allows theses things to happen.with id's we would know who they are and where they are.
Amartinez, please tell your friends that there is a work visa system in place. They do not have to cross into the country illegally. I know a lot of people who are in the U.S. legally on those work visa's. The problem is they don't keep their work visa's current. Once they are here they simply stop doing the right thing which is to keep their documents current. If they decide they like it here and want to make it their home then they need to apply for citizenship. It took 3 years for my father to physically get to North America, another 2 years to get into the United States and then several years after that to obtain his citizenship. He worked hard to get it and wanted it very badly. It is of great value to him. If your friends are here only for a job then they need to take the responsbility of making sure they keep up on their visa paperwork. No other country the I am aware of, including most Central and South American countries would allow people to just walk in and start making demands and telling that country that they have rights. I believe all people have human rights. They have the right to be treated respectfully and not be hurt or man handled. But they don't have the right to come into a another country and start making demands. I understand, as do most of us, that the majority of people entering the U.S. are doing so because they are seeking a better life but they need to do it by the rules. You also need to think about why people in the U.S. don't seem to be taking these jobs. It is tiresome to here that we don't want these jobs or don't know how to work. This is not true. The problem is that people continue to enter this country illegally and it drives the wages down. I'm sure your friends deserve a better life. But they need to apply for work visa's and come out of the shadows and be treated properly because they want to be here the right way.
These people are not immigrants. They are illegal aliens. The immigrants that built this country went through the process to become a citizen, they learned the language, they became Americans and they paid taxes. Illegal aliens have not gone through that process, yet they expect free medical care and a free education and all the other benefits of citizenship. Granted they do a lot of work, and when they start paying taxes and buying their own medical insurance I will stop griping.
