Time reporter to reveal source in CIA leak case
Jul 6, 2005, 20:12 GMT
Washington - Facing a jail sentence, a Time magazine reporter agreed Wednesday to reveal the name of his secret source in President George W. Bush's administration who leaked the identity of an undercover CIA officer, television reports said.
A U.S. District Judge has threatened Matt Cooper and Judith Miller of The New York Times with jail if they do not reveal who blew Valerie Plame's cover.
Miller refused to reveal the name of her source, Cable News Network and Fox News reported, and she could be sentenced to jail later Wednesday on contempt of court charges.
Plame's husband, former U.S. ambassador Joe Wilson, criticized the U.S. case for the war in Iraq and has claimed that the Bush administration retaliated by exposing his wife's identity. The White House has denied authorizing the leak.
Under U.S. law, it is illegal to unmask an undercover intelligence officer.
