Jan 31, 2006, 15:51 GMT
Washington - Coretta Scott King, the widow of slain civil rights activist Martin Luther King, Jr., died Tuesday in Atlanta, Georgia, US media reports said. She was 78.
She had suffered a minor stroke in the summer of 2005, but returned later to appear at public events, most recently on January 16, the annual holiday commemorating her late husband.
Her husband, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Martin Luther King Jr., was murdered by an assassin in Memphis, Tennessee in April 1968. After his death, Coretta Scott King carried on his work in the American civil rights movement.
