Washington - The US military on Wednesday charged seven US Marines and a Navy corpsman with the murder of a 54-year-old Iraqi civilian in the town of Hamdaniya.
The eight soldiers also face charges of kidnapping, conspiracy, larceny and false statement, said Colonel Stewart Navarre at Camp Pendleton, California.
The soldiers allegedly took Hasham Ibrahim Awad from his home in April before fatally shooting him. They reportedly placed shovels near the man to give the appearance he was planting a roadside bomb.
The US military is holding the prisoners at the base in southern California.
The alleged killing at the hands of US servicemen is one of more than two dozen under investigation.
The US miliary investigating the deaths of 24 Iraqi civilians, including women and children, in November in the Iraqi city of Haditha.
The military charged a fourth soldier in the 101st Airborne Division with the murder of three detainees. The military had announced murder charges against three others on Monday. The charges also include attempted murder, conspiracy, communicating a threat and obstructing justice.
The detainees were killed during an operation in southern Salah ad Din Province on May 9, the military said.

Profesional soldiers do not act in this way, if they murdered him, they deserve all they get and deserve to rot in jial next to rapists and other murderers.
There is a law of armed conflict, professional soldiers sign up to that law, it doesnt matter if the enemy is nothing more then dirt, the moment they killed that guy, they stopped being professionals and they should make a joint public apology to all those other brave professionals who are doing the job right..and by the rules

keep in mind that this is one of the most dangerous cities in Iraq and that is saying a lot. It is unlikely that the cowards in the NCIS spent any time in so dangerous a location investigating this alleged crime. One thing I can agree on when talking to my leftist friends is that the children of our political and economic elite will never be put in this situation. They are protected from the messy business of protecting the country and are reserved for their rightful place as our future political and economic elite.
