US army investigating new killings

Jun 30, 2006, 14:53 GMT

Washington - The US military has launched an investigation into allegations that US soldiers killed a family of Iraqi civilians, the US-led coalition said Friday.

The alleged killings took place in the family's home in Mahmudiyah, which lies south of Baghdad. The press release from the Iraqi capital did not specify when the murders took place, but said the incident was first reported June 23.

The investigation announced Friday is one of several that has been launched recently into the death of Iraqi civilians at the hands of US soldiers.

The Pentagon is conducting an investigation into members of the US Marine Corp in connection to the slaughter of 24 Iraqi civilians, including women in children, in November in Haditha.

The US military last week charged seven US Marines and a Navy corpsman with the murder of a 54-year-old Iraqi civilian in the town of Hamdaniya.

The eight soldiers also face charges of kidnapping, conspiracy, larceny and false statement, said Colonel Stewart Navarre at Camp Pendleton, California.

Another four US soldiers have been charged with the murder of three Iraqi detainees who were shot during an operation in southern Salah ad Din Province on May 9.

It happens everyday all over our planet and no one cares . Unless its an American or Israeli that is guilty of something , then suddenly we are ' outraged ' . It is you and I who are responsible for this pathetic world , not ' them ' .

Because they claimed to have moral high ground. Noone will notice if it was done by Iran, north korea or saudi arabia.Simple, if they don't want attention, declare they don't have high moral grounds or troops can do such terruble things.

draw no conclusions. this does not say why soldiers killed iraqis. the iraqi insurgents regularly use women and children in their plots and traps. in certain areas soldiers have orders not to stop their vehicles for anything. insurgents put women and children in front of these US convoys all the time. let's also not forget that war is hell and innocents always die in the wake.

I see the Bushie apologists are out standing up for rape and murder after bravely standing up for the Marine's right in Haditha to shoot 2yo handcuffed girls in the head. JESUS WOULD BE SO PROUD

'There is no flag large enough to cover the shame of innocent people.'
-Howard Zinn
This is always true no matter who the perpetrator but when it is the great and powerful(Americans and Israelis) against the small and weak(just about everybody else), it is especially despicable. We can no longer hold the high moral ground when we're bombing innocent civilians, torturing prisoners, or , as in the case of Israel, using ridiculously overwhelming force against poorly armed Palestinians.

Women and children are given guns and strapped to bombs and sent out to kill soldiers every day. There are bigger things at play here than you even realize. Do not simply flap your lips about something on which you have no personal experience - instead, thank god that there are people brave and selfless enough to do the jobs at home and abroad that you are unable to and pray that we posess the constitution to do those jobs to the best of our ability.

100,000 Iraqi civilians killed by American 'Heroes' to justify 3000 killed by Osama. There were NO Iraqi's involvement in 9/11. Western world just want to take over the oil fields without UN approval. Iraqi war is illegal!

The Iraqis are not responsible for 911 and the Palestinians are not responsible for the holocaust, yet they are being made to pay with their blood for crimes that they did not commit.

What did this poor woman ever did to you americans that she was raped in front of her family and later killed? What did she ever do to you? I hope those american bastards that did this to her rot in hell for all eternity!

The justifying cause of a war, and clear and intelligible war aims, ought to be explained to the people by an experienced leader. Unless there is a quite definite war aim to which the people can consciously pledge themselves, the unity and strength of conviction that lead to victory will not be forthcoming. But the leader must also look to it that the passion of war and the delirium of victory do not give rise to unjust acts that will not meet with general approval.

So this is the 'Shock and Awe' campaign Bush promised.

I guess the strategy is to get the rests of the world so afraid of the criminals in the army that they give up?

The U.S. Army will investigate charges that five American soldiers were involved in the killings of four Iraqi relatives, including a woman who had been raped, military officials said Friday. It's the sixth current inquiry into the alleged slayings of Iraqi civilians by American troops.

These soldiers are scum and should be executed as such, if these acts are proven. America has no love or sympathy for its murderers and rapists, soldiers or not, and those apologists who make excuses for these atrocities do not represent our majority by any stretch of the imagination. Regardless of the circumstances of this war, those who engage in such acts in any context should be treated as dogs and be put down.

Guilty unless proven innocent in a court of public opinion... is that how the justice system is set up to work? You people make me very sad. My friends have laid down their lives paving the way to a free and democratic future for all Iraqi people willing to live within the boundaries of the law. The closest your arguments get to being 'truth' stems from improperly trained and overly stressed MPs and officials at Abu Graib. With every other claim that has arisen, the soldiers in question have been dragged through the mud because of idiots like yourself - only to later be released of any liabilities after investigations are concluded.

So, misrepresenting facts or otherwise creating home made facts aside... has anyone since this started signed up for the armed services? You know... volunteer to actually make a difference? If you have a different idea and could be such the better soldier, give me your zip code and I will direct you to your nearest recruiter.

I hear your mental voices going 'that guy is nuts - I'll never sign up for the military'... Its ok. I'm not shocked. That has always been your way, right? Rather than act and make a difference - just flap your lips from a safe distance. I'm literally sick with the ignorance I've witnessed here. I have seen some dumb people in my lifetime - but the sum total of the dumb I have found in you people is staggering.
