Armed intruder causes scare at US Capitol
Sep 18, 2006, 15:11 GMT
Washington - The US Capitol was sealed off for about an hour Monday after a suspect breached security and entered the building after crashing a car into a barricade, news reports said.
Cable News Network (CNN) reported that the intruder was carrying a small-calibre weapon. Capitol police could not immediately be reached for comment or further details.
Security officials stopped people from entering or leaving the Capitol building - the home of the US House of Representatives and the Senate - at about 8:12 am (1212 GMT) and lifted the 'lockdown' at about 9 am, a spokeswoman said.
'It was an interesting start to the day,' she said.
