he should have life in prison with no hearings
...um, what country are you writing from? Here in America, we're not punished until its clear we've done bad. At least, that is, unless Dubya somehow stays in office and completes his goal of burning our Constitution...
The guy is 71 yrs old. It was 43 years ago what difference is it going to make if he lives his last few remaining years in prison at the cost of the taxpayer? If he lived 43 yrs without killing anyone else if in fact killed the ones he is accused, seeing the state cant prove it.....waste of time, energy and money if you ask me.
And I guess you think he gave the two black guys an opportunity to be declared innocent before beating them??
thye should have killed him and or made hikm go through what they did to these people who got kiddnapped.
It's only a hate crime because the victims were black. Had the victims been white peosecutors would be asking what they did to provoke him. America is getting fed up with this reverse racsism.
What a lie the above comment is. In the U.S., how 'guilty' you are depends very much on what class (i.e. race too) you are from. Rich people walk away from plenty of crimes they clearly commit; plenty of poor and 'troublemakers' are railroaded. 'Evidence' is created as needed, if needed.
And that's a fact. Obviously, this guy is very expendable and an easy sop to liberals. Doesn't change the picture or the Big Lie. Doesn't change what a police state the U.S. actually is. Doesn't change the requirement for class struggle against this system.
Joe..you should go and tell this to the family of the unfortunate teens who had to face a horrific death. Just wish you or someone close to you never has to face what they did. Being realistic would then have a totally different meaning for you.
If they'd been white it would have never happened. That's why it is a hate crime.
I think it's clear where Psst's sympathies lie-
and his lack of education is pretty evident-
I guess those Mississippi schools deserve their poor reputation
Mark, you need to consider 1) the epoch that this occured, 2) the motivation behind the killings. The definition of a hate crime is not merely where a white person kills, hurts or injures or black person. You've got to look at other factors; you've got to reflect and look outside of the box.
Had this man been an 'easy' target of prosecution, fourty years would not have passed for the wheels of justice to come full circle. That it has been that long in no way mitigates the severity of his crime. Were it otherwise, had it taken long enough to find Eichmann, he'd have walked. The two kids who were murdered were not murdered because they were black, they were murdered because thay sought Justice for all men. Now, this man, who would have denied that right to his victims, will find himself its reciepient.
GOOD! They finally caught him. (Like so many others...) For 43 years he has hidden behind the coattails and has been protected by the authority. The police, the lawyers, the politicians, the towns people, anyone and everyone that was involved in this case that helped cover it up and keep this man out of prison. Just because it was 43 years ago doesn't mean that we should ignore the fact that an unforgivable and henious crime took place at the hands of two insecure, ignorant, unintelligent racists members of the KKK. The not so funny thing is - there are a whole lot more of them out there that need to be brougt to justice. How about Wayne Williams - accused of killing all those little black boys down in Atlanta. He is still doing time and you know he did not do those crimes ...it was a set up....just like everything else. I say catch them all, one by one.
so Psst, based on your genius, you can kill freely and if you go over a certain period of time without doing it again it's all forgiven? what are you doing online? shouldn't you be burning a cross somewhere?
Think outside the box a bit - this 71 year old has to face the Almighty - an appointment his family cannot avoid for him by saying he's dead!
Of course, that goes for all of us - eventually the Great Judgement and it ain't just killers going to face 'life' you know where is it..........
...just crime. Billy Bob is in a heap o trouble. The ignorant dick brain thought he could beat the law, but ol GW's hangin judges will catch up. After all, by now even the dumbest libernazi can't blame GW for sitting still!
By the way to the ignorant dick who slammed Bush:( he was 15 years old??/)
The last KKK guys to commit murder in texas...He made sure the Texas Constitution was followed. Then, he had them put to death.
God, I love this guy.
My reply to your empty rehtoric is that, despite our shortcomings, we have the fairest courts on the planet.
Mr. Marx, I hate commies... but don't wish to kill them. Like Sen. McCarthey, I just want them to kill themselves.

i do not understand the whole concept of a hate crime charge. it sounds as if your are saying it is worse to kill one certain type of person over another.as if one is more valuable. do we need to enact a greed crime for people who kill rich people? or a hate boss law for people who kill their boss? to me if you kill someone black, white, jew or weirdo the charge should be the same and the sentence be the same. period! we have gotten far to defensive in America about things that really do not matter and it actually leads to futher division in our country. just like the guy on 'greys anatomy' who made a remark about gays. now he is being treated as though he has a mental problem and is being forced into therapy for it like he needs psycological help for his obviously 'warped mind'. why? he made a comment and a few oversensitive people were offended. does he not have the right to speak without the world coming down on his head? he has a right to say what he wants. if you don't like it don't watch him on t.v. most people in the public eye are really peculiar and if you were around them off screen you would not like them. we just fall for their on screen persona and think that is how they are all the time.but back to hate crimes you can kill people every day as long as they are just like you and its just a crime. but if a normal person kills a queer it is a hate crime, a white kills a black its a hate crime. NO it is not. its a crime. a terrible crime.if i walked into a business and began beating up on someone it should not matter what he believes or who he is i am guilty of a crime, not a special heading crime which puts special distinction on one group over another.these laws divide more than unite.
First of all this man deserves a fair trial before everyone goes and tells of how he must be sentenced to death and saying how dare he commit such a crime... have you forgotten 'innocent until PROVEN guilty?' Also seeing that the jury is of mixed races, it is no doubt they will end with a guilty verdict... they probably already have their mind set that he is guilty. Because of the hype of this case... only reason its making headlines is because he was a Klansman... the people want to show they will not stand for a 'racist' , if it wasn't for the fact that he was in the Klan, then and only then, could any sort of a fair trial go under way... oh and might I add that the judge is a black woman.
Has a Lawyer to guarantee a fair trial. Picking a jury will be hard, but he only needs one thinker in the bunch. Even in the south, they have enough of these.
Sorry folks, but murder committed 40 years ago is still murder. If you make an exception and defer to a suspects age you pervert the principle of equal treatment under the law. Mistrust between races is never going to completely go away and to think it will is a grand delusion. Get over it.
He should be punished for what he has done, no matter how long ago or what race any parties are. 71 years old---I believe this guy will be tried in Mississippi. When I was in school there studying Criminal Justice there were about a dozen prisoners on dialysis and serving life terms. The State carries this cost. Over $1,000,000 per year. Why pay for this guys health care through MS systems? Convict him and place under house arrest with community service and fines for the remainder of his life.
Doesn't ol' Miss. have capital punishment? What makes this guy immune?
Justice needs to prevail no matter what the man's age is. Several years ago there was a Nazi war criminal caught, tried, found guilty but yet released due to the fact he was elderly. What a crock, alot of the victims he sent to the camps were sick and elderly too. Age shouldn't be a factor in justice, only right and wrong! He will pay in the afterlife as we all will but he still needs to pay his dues here on earth if tried and found guilty. I would be glad to pay my tax dollars to see that he loses his freedom for the remainder of his life, the same right he denied those young men. I think his (the accused) family should be charged for lying to authorities for all these years. Imagine the hell the victims families have had to go through to finally get some closure.
I would hope that these men have grown up, matured and since put away dressing up in the bedsheets just to incite hate and violence, but it wouldn't erase the crimes that have been committed. There has to be justice!
