Laptop driver in fatal crash
Feb 27, 2007, 20:15 GMT
Los Angeles - Driver alert: Do not operate vehicle while working on laptop.
That's the message that should have been plastered over the car of a driver who apparently thought he could drive along a highway while pecking away at his portable computer.
The 28-year-old computer tutor died in an accident Monday, when his car veered into oncoming traffic and into the path of a Hummer SUV, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.
When police arrived they found the victim's computer still running and plugged into the cigarette lighter of his 1991 Honda Accord.
'The screen itself shattered from the impact, so we can't be sure if he was working on it or not, but we think from the way it was found that he might have been working,' said Sergeant John Pettigrew, a California Highway Patrol spokesman. 'It's a straight road right there, and it doesn't look like he fell asleep or anything else.'
The couple in the other vehicle escaped the 8:30 am collision with bumps and bruises, Pettigrew said.

Hello! It was an older Japanese car. He was probably a 'tuner' who was playing with his car engine computer via the laptop. Adjusting the air mix, etc.
Who knows what he was doing? For all we know he was charging it, or using it to play MP3s. Great detective work. Had they found a guitar in the car would they assume he was playing it too?
It would be quite easy to find what he was doing by looking at the memory - the fact that the screen is shattered is totally irrelevent
