Student bus plunges off highway overpass: six killed (1st Lead)
Mar 2, 2007, 16:23 GMT
Washington - At least six people were killed Friday when a bus carrying student athletes plunged 8 metres off a highway overpass in Atlanta, Georgia.
The bus driver, his wife and four students died in the crash. Another nine students were seriously injured and 20 were lightly hurt, a police spokesman told broadcaster CNN. Three students were taken to a nearby hospital were in critical condition, health authorities said.
The bus was carrying 35 baseball players and some coaches from Bluffton University in Ohio, travelling to Florida for their first games of the season in Florida.
'It's clear that this is a profound and tragic day in the life of Bluffton University,' James Harder, president of Bluffton University, said at a press conference. 'We will hang together and support eachother and try to work through this difficult situation.'
The bus driver reportedly took the wrong exit ramp onto an elevated highway, and apparently didn't realise he had to turn left or right at the intersection. The bus carried on straight and was unable to stop, breaking through the bridge barrier at about 5:30 am (1030 GMT). The vehicle plunged onto a highway below and fell on its side, blocking all five lanes.

cereal killer-too bad it was'nt your family -you insensitive jerk
Cereal Killer, you are a sick individual, get some help...
To cereal killer - I'm a great believer in Karma so I would watch out following your last comment!!!
Cereal Killer....Why can't a moderator delete this really sick comment from an obviously very demented individual......It is truly sad that there are people out there tormented enough to ever think such a thing let alone actually post it on the internet....
Why do we make a big deal out of an accident. Do you know how many people in Iraq accidently die of Marines taking them as terrorists, or bomb attacks, etc.... All you care about is the littlest things that happen at home. The US has killed more than half million civilians during their wars or at least are part of the reason of their death.
We call your thinking relativist. You cannot distingguish beteween events. War casualties, while tragic, certainly are different than a simple accident.
You also rely on folks who cannot count. There are not 500,000 'civilian' casualties in Iraq.
