Love triangle astronaut fired from NASA astronaut corps
Mar 7, 2007, 19:47 GMT
Washington - US astronaut Lisa Nowak, whose jealousy in a love-triangle involving another astronaut has made headlines for weeks, Wednesday was dropped from NASA's elite space team.
The US Navy captain's 'detail' as a NASA astronaut 'has been terminated' effective Thursday, according to a statement posted on the NASA official website.
Nowak, 43, who participated in her first shuttle mission last year, has been charged with battery and attempted kidnapping in an Orlando, Florida, court after she attacked her rival for the affections of fellow astronaut William Oefelein.
The victim of the attack, Colleen Shipman, is also a military officer but not in the astronaut corps.
'NASA requested an end to the detail because the agency lacks the administrative means to deal appropriately with the criminal charges pending against Nowak,' the statement said.
Nowak is a naval officer on assignment to NASA, and is therefore 'not subject to administrative action by NASA,' the officials said.
Nowak will however remain in the US Navy which is expected to make her next assignment.

Reminds me of a guy who got a $1,000,000 salary for eight years and who's wife is running for that same job...

What about the 'male' astronaut? Doesn't the Navy have some regulation about conduct unbecoming? If banging someone else's wife, and allowing his pathetic slavery to his 'tool' to destroy another mans family doesn't qualify as conduct unbecoming I don't know what does. Every one involved should be drummed out of the service and denied their pensions. I don't mind my tax dollars being spent on valuable research and space exploration, I do mind my tax dollars being squandered on a group of hot little sex monkeys who can't manage to keep it in their own pants! I'm sorry that there were children involved, even more so if you consider that many children still aspire to be astronauts!
