Apr 20, 2007, 22:11 GMT
Washington - A man with a gun barricaded himself inside a building at NASA's Johnson Space Centre in Texas and fired at least two shots on Friday, police said.
Police had not yet made contact with the white man who is between the ages of 50 and 60, police spokesman DW Ready said in a televised press conference. It remained unclear whether the man was a NASA employee.
The building had been evacuated, but Ready could not say whether any employees remained in the building.
Visitors cannot enter the NASA complex without identification.
NASA said the building houses engineers working on communications and tracking of spacecraft. About 3,000 engineers and scientists work on the campus of the Johnson Space Centre.
