Man kills hostage, commits suicide in NASA building (Roundup)

Apr 20, 2007, 22:39 GMT

Washington - A man killed one hostage and committed suicide inside a building at NASA's Johnson Space Centre in Texas after barricading himself inside with two hostages on Friday, police said.

While trying to establish contact with the white man who was between the ages of 50 and 60, police heard a shot and then found the man dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, spokesman DW Ready said in a televised press conference. It remained unclear whether the man was a NASA employee.

Police also found the body of one male hostage, who they believed had been killed shortly after the man had barricaded himself in the building. A female hostage was found unharmed and bound with duct tape.

Visitors cannot enter the NASA complex without identification.

NASA said the building houses engineers working on communications and tracking of spacecraft. About 3,000 engineers and scientists work on the campus of the Johnson Space Centre.

Intrigue? Subterfuge? Another love triangle gone awry? My interest is piqued.
Tell me though, how is helpful or relevant depicting the killer as 'the white man'?

The majority of these school killings and serial killings are by white men, what type of rap music were they listening to?Rap music is not the cause of violence like white america wants to say it is.The color of criminals especially if they are minorities are plastered across the headlines when they commit crimes, where is your complaints then?

The US does not take mental health problems seriously. HMOs severely limit counseling and push aside real therapy for the most serious personality disorders. Everything is 'the meds' and there is very little monitoring to make sure people who are potentially explosive, suicidal or dangerous to others are taking their meds. And for many, meds are not a total answer. As a result, we have a lot of time bombs walking around.

Also, the so-called administrators and security people are basically reactive not pro-active. They can do a good job of checking airline travellers in a line, especially the 85 year old grandmothers with several artificial limbs, but not in profiling extreme and dangerous persons. They also are usually afraid of engendering lawsuits or bad PR.

Finally, way too many guns. I dont know the answer. Maybe there isn't. Just on guns, 29,000 people die each year in the US from gun violence, of which 17,000 kill themselves. If we cover a 50 year life cycle, in 50 years, there is a 1 in 200 chance of someone getting killed by a gun. And we haven't covered maiming and other disabilities, as well as the multiplier effect by 5 or 10 at least of people traumatized by being at the scene or having a friend or family member involved.

As long as we have a national culture and President who honor aggressive behavior and keep all the media, gaming, gun access and don't fund real
mental health care, we will keep writing off a significant part of the population, the extreme mentally ill and, sometimes, their victims.

> WHATS WRONG WITH AMERICA? DOES EVERYBODY HAVE A LISCENCE TO KILL OVER THERE?

99.99999% of the people have *NOT* killed anyone today.

Not sure where you get your '100% everyone' values.
(And your spelling errors.)

You people are idiots! The gun did not kill anyone, the deranged guy did. When will people stop blaming the tool instead of the person. The car is not blamed when a drunk kills someone.

This is the fact:
IF there is no gun, then no one will be killed by people who used gun.
The killers may use other mean.

Look at coutries that the law prohibits their citizens to carry guns.
There is big diff. with the US.

I'm sick and tired of 'guns don't kill people, people kills people' and comparing gun and car.

THE PURPOSE OF THE GUN IS TO KILL (PEOPLE/ANIMAL).PERIOD!

THE PURPOSE OF THE CAR IS TO CARRY PEOPLE, OBJECTS FROM ONE PLACE T ANOTHER.

It seems you are more concerned about spelling them about the news itself. Good for you. Maybe you should ask Monsters and Critics to: 1-block all those who are not perfect English writers; 2-block all non Americans; 3-block all those with whom you don't agree; 4-block everybody else, except you; 5-elect you as the world great dictator; 6-kill everybody else a let you alone in this planet. Then, finally, the world will be perfect!
