Terrorist attacks worldwide rose sharply in 2006

Apr 30, 2007, 22:35 GMT

Washington - Worldwide terrorist attacks rose by 25 per cent in 2006 compared to the previous year, with Iraq accounting for more than half of the 20,000 fatalities, the US State Department said Monday.

There were about 6,600 terrorist attacks in Iraq in 2006 that claimed 13,000 lives, the State Department said in its annual report on international terrorism.

The number of terrorist attacks in Iraq grew by more than 3,000 from 2005 and made up 45 per cent of all global attacks, the report said.

Five years since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the report cited progress in cooperation among nations in fighting al- Qaeda and other groups and at arresting key terrorist figures.

'This is not the kind of war where you can measure success with conventional numbers,' the State Department's acting coordinator for counterterrorism, Frank C Urbancic, said.

More than 1,800 children were killed and wounded in terrorist attacks worldwide, and most of the victims overall were Muslims, Urbancic said.

Outside of Iraq and the Middle East, the number of terrorist attacks world wide remained about the same during the last two years, the report said.

Iran continued to be the largest state sponsor of terrorism and, along with Syria, continued to support Hezbollah in Lebanon and Palestinian militant groups behind attacks on Israel, the report said.

Iran has also provided weapons and training for militants in Iraq carrying out terrorist attacks, the report said.

This is good news because it means we're winnin' the war on terror. See, the terrorists hate us because of our freedoms. So if we're beatin' 'em, that means we're gettin' free of terrorism. So they hate us now more than ever before, so the attacks are up. So that means we're winnin'! See how that works? Hopefully, by this time next year it'll be total mayhem. Then we'll really know we got them Shadowy Terrorist bastards on the run.

lol

No, silly - It's because of the increased support that the Democrats have gained this past year...Get rid of the Democrats, and the terrorists will have to give up and go home.

Americans are refusing to travel abroad because of the terrorist threat. The number of people killed in terrorist events last year was 20,000 of which half were in Iraq. The number of people killed by guns in america last year was 30,000.
You don't need to be a rocket scientist to work out that its actually safer to travel, particularly if you avoid Iraq, than it is to stay in America !!!!

I presume these American defined terrorist totals include the hundreds killed in Lebanon and Gaza and the West bank and elsewhere by their friends in israel and omit the retaliations from Hezbollah totalling a few dozen. After all people are allowed to defend themselves aren't they, as America has done in Afghanistan and Iraq in retaliation against the thirteen Saudi Arabians (whoops!) who took part in 9/11, unless as with the jewish state they stole the land they presently occupy. If the Europeans can hand back stolen jewish property taken 70 years ago the jewish state can hand back the land it stole 60 years ago, ..... ie all of it. It is not anti-semitic to demand that one group of semites, the jews, stop murdering another group of semites, the Arabs. And is it not too much to ask that a so-called Christian nation turn the other cheek when 3,500 of its people are killed, as the UK did when 3,500 of its people were killed in Northern Ireland by a largely New York funded IRA, or at the very least at least attack the country that provided the personnel (Saudi Arabia) rather than the suckers standing about on the sidelines.

OK so we finally did it! We've created a terrorist factory that will allow us to fight the 'war on terra' anywhere we want to without additional justification! This translates to almost unlimited corporate profiteering potential! What could be better for the US of A?
As you can see, half of the attacks are Muslim on Muslim, so after a while we can just put the killing on autopilot and they can destroy themselves, and the next generation will follow. The Muslims will eat themselves while we take the oil and natural gas. They won't even notice after a while, especially if we get the right ones in our pocket. It's our God-given right as Americans. Hell, we did it with the blacks in America, these people aren't that different, they're brown too.

This is what Republicans sound like when the cameras and mics are gone. Hope nobody is surprised.
