Bush to meet NATO chief at Texas ranch
May 10, 2007, 17:11 GMT
Washington - US President George W Bush will meet NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer at his Texas ranch on May 20- 21 for broad talks on the military alliance's agenda, the White House said Thursday.
Topics will include NATO operations in Afghanistan and Kosovo as well as the alliance's expansion into eastern Europe and its transformation to meet new security challenges.
The White House gave no details, but the list suggested that the two leaders will discuss touchy US plans to build missile defence sites in Poland and the Czech Republic, which Russia has sharply protested.
De Hoop Scheffer is getting preferred treatment: Bush invites only select foreign guests for official talks to his ranch in Crawford, Texas.
