Small plane crash leaves at least five dead (Roundup)
Jul 10, 2007, 19:47 GMT
Washington - A small plane crashed into two homes near Orlando, Florida on Tuesday, killing at least five people, officials said.
Among the dead were two children and three adults, including the plane's pilot and a passenger, authorities in the town of Sanford said. Another three people were badly burned and taken to a local hospital, including a 10-year-old boy who suffered third-degree burns on 80 per cent of his body.
Both of the two-storey homes burned entirely to the ground after the crash, the cause of which remained unclear.
Smoke rose from the smouldering wreckage site, and one rescue worker said it was 'likely' they would find more dead at the site. A four-year-old daughter of one of the house's families remained missing.
Eyewitness Terry Boyd told broadcaster CNN that he saw people fleeing the scene in 'panic' and shaking their heads in bewilderment.
The twin-engine Cessna 310 aircraft was headed from Daytona to Lakeland and was only 10 minutes into the flight when Orlando airport received a distress call at about 8:35 am (1235 GMT), according to Sanford fire investigator Matt Minnetto.
The pilot reported smoke in the cockpit, and soon after said a crash was imminent. Witnesses reported seeing the plane oscillate, fall out of sight below the treeline and a subsequent plume of smoke.

That's really sad. This is the reason why I only fly planes in flight simulator. I won't go near a real plane.
