Sep 5, 2007, 21:23 GMT
Washington - A sitting Republican lawmaker from the US state of Ohio has died, Congressional officials said Wednesday.
Paul Gilmor, who had served in the US House of Representatives since 1988, died suddenly and was found in his Washington area home after not appearing for work Wednesday, the Capital Hill publication Roll Call reported. The death was likely due to natural causes.
House Minority Leader John Boehner, who also represents Ohio, praised Gilmore for his dedication and offer his condolences to the family.
'Born, raised, and educated in our home state of Ohio, Paul never lost sight of the reason he came to Congress to serve this great institution and his constituents with dedication and distinction,' Boehner said in a statement.
A special election will be held to fill Gilmor's seat.
