Bin Laden video praises killing US troops (Roundup)

Washington - A speaker identified as Osama bin Laden praises militants who kill US soldiers in Iraq and urges the world to embrace Islam in what appeared to be the al-Qaeda leader's first video message in three years, US media reported Friday.
In a taunt to US President George W Bush, bin Laden's purported message emerged days before the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York and Washington, which killed almost 3,000 people.
Initial analysis of the video 'suggests that the voice is indeed that of Osama bin Laden,' said a US intelligence official, speaking on condition of anonymity.
References to recent US politics, new British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and French President Nicolas Sarkozy and last month's anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima indicated that the message may be from this summer, according to a transcript obtained by US television networks.
Bush said the video served as a reminder that the international community must remain committed to the war on terrorism.
'The tape is a reminder of the dangerous world in which we live,' Bush told reporters at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders summit in Sydney.
If the man on the tape is bin Laden, he seemed to have cropped his once-grey beard and dyed it black. US intelligence officials were analyzing the video for authenticity and content.
While making no specific threat, the speaker says one way for 'our side' to force a US retreat from Iraq is 'to continue to escalate the fighting and killing against you.' He also praises the 19 hijackers who flew the September 11 suicide jetliners.
He blames big corporations for global warming, muses about why the US Democratic Party has failed to stop the war in Iraq and predicts the collapse of the 'American empire.'
He urges Americans to convert to Islam if they want to 'achieve your desire to end the war.'
'To conclude, I invite you to embrace Islam, for the greatest mistake one can make in the world and one that is uncorrectable is to die while not surrendering to Allah, the Most High, in all aspects of one's life - i.e., do die outside of Islam,' the transcript said.
A Washington firm that monitors al-Qaeda messages on the internet, SITE Intelligence Group, said the video was meant to mark six years since the September 11 attacks.
It would be bin Laden's first video message since October 29, 2004, when he claimed responsibility for the attacks on New York and Washington and warned of further strikes. He aired four audio messages between January and July 2006.
Earlier, President George W Bush's homeland security adviser Frances Townsend dismissed the message as propaganda.
'I just think people have got to be clear that we're being manipulated every time that they issue a statement, because they're trying to use the media as a way to terrorize us,' Townsend told CNN.
'After all, we haven't seen an attack, and this is one way that they try to terrorize the American people,' she said.
The US Homeland Security Department had said Thursday when news of the video emerged that there was 'no credible information' about any planned terrorist strike against the US.
In the past, messages from Al-Qaeda's media wing al-Sahab on the anniversary of the attacks have included a video each year in which they show the final words of one of the attackers.
The United States stepped up its hunt for bin Laden after al-Qaeda carried out the September 11 attacks. US intelligence suspects he is hiding in mountainous terrain along the Afghan-Pakistani border.
US forces reportedly narrowly missed him during the battle of Tora Bora in December 2001 between US and Afghan forces, and al-Qaeda and the Taliban. Not having sufficient US soldiers in the region is cited as a reason bin Laden was able to slip away.

Bin Laden is warning the United States? Now that's rich! He happens to be that one that's running for his life and hiding out in a hole in the ground somewhere in the mountains of Western Pakistan.
But this is that time of year that we've all come to expect this kind of empty rhetoric from al-qaeda. He sort of reminds me of the groundhog on Groundhog's Day that pops his head up out his hole once a year to give the world a totally useless tidbit of trivia.

‘Pure’ Islam, very obviously, is all about KILLING. Osama is a shining example of a true Muslim following his prophet’s example.
What a neat setup. Attack a country that is not Muslim, but which you call Satan, and defy the truth. America is not a Christian country, and all the people there do not claim it to be so. But Islam, while it is a religion, is really a culture and the structure is such that it is required that you be religious or at least seem so. Keep all the rituals, dig hard to obtain paradise, or the chancy part of Jihad, which is no guarentee in any case. Much of what goes on in the US is definitly not something Jesus Christ would approve of, but then the US culture allows that, something that the elites of Islam say should change. If the US would submit to Isalm, then it would all be over, we would be the slave, they would own it all and then we could just get on with killing Muslims that disagreed with us. That's happening in many Muslim countries, where everyone(?) professes to be in submission to Allah, especially in Iraq and Iran. Shiites kill the Sunnies, who in turn, kill the Sufies and so forth. So far, so good. Now that they are majoring in the contest to see who will be top dog, and be the head facist, they might leave us alone, and even sell gasoline for less than a dollar. Now, one doesn't have to be Muslim to be living in a Muslim country, you just have to be the head tax for living under the protection of the Muslims. They will tell you that they are peacelovers, and want there to be peace, which is why they kill all those who oppose them.
Personally, I think this is of the beast, right out of the pit.
