Cleveland 14-Year-old shoots students

A 14-year-old gunman shot his fellow students at a Cleveland High School.

The mayor of Cleveland says three children were taken to a hospital after the teen opened fire Wednesday at an alternative city school, according to the AP.

A shooting took place at a downtown Cleveland school Wednesday afternoon and four people were shot, Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson said at a press briefing outside the school.

The shooting took place at SuccessTech Academy, a non-traditional school in Cleveland. A 14-year-old suspect was taken into custody by authorities, Jackson said at the briefing. "They have the shooter," Jackson said.

Jackson identified the shooting victims as 42- and 57-year-old males and 17- and 14-year-old males. The two adults were described by the mayor as in "more critical condition" than the two teens. A 14-year-old female student injured her knee trying to flee from the shooter.

He also said the school had been secured, but he offered no other details.

The AP reports student Ronnell Jackson, 15, said he saw a shooter running down a hall at SuccessTech Academy.

"He was about to shoot me but I got out just in time," he said. "He was aiming at me I got out just in time."

Tammy Mundy, 38, who has a son and daughter at the school, told The Plain Dealer of Cleveland that her daughter called when the shooting started.

"She said, 'Mom they're shooting in here, kids are running out, I'm hiding in the closet,'" Mundy told the newspaper.

Then she called her 18-year-old son, Darnell Rodgers, on his cell phone, and he told her he had been shot in the arm.

"He said, 'Mom I got shot,'" Mundy told the newspaper.

The school enrolls students grades nine through 12 and emphasizes technology education.
